Forces (American Landscapes)
Views of tent cities - those communities made of tents, tarps, and anything else useful for urban survival, populating underpasses, inviting (or not) public places - were burned into my mind when I first moved to Portland OR. I was amazed by their abundance (not as common in Canada for various reasons) but, more significantly, after a year or so I realized I stopped noticing them all together. I had lost some of my sensitivity to the existence and suffering of those around me. A most humbling realization.
I made these works the first three months after the 2016 US Presidential Election - they were my first experimentation embedding lights and technology into my work.
